How to play the landmark size comparison game
A landmark round starts with a fixed reference and a target silhouette you probably recognise immediately. Recognition is only the first step: read whether the game compares height, length, or a main span, resize the target, and lock in your estimate.
The selected endpoints matter. A tower may include its permanent spire, a bridge may be measured end to end, and a mountain may use elevation above sea level. The field note makes the definition visible before the reveal.

Travel photos give buildings and bridges a human-sized frame, but the frame is often too small to communicate total height or length. A tower can become a postcard shape, and a mountain can become a distant triangle. Side-by-side silhouettes restore the missing proportion.
Landmarks also combine different kinds of measurement. Height, span, and end-to-end length are not interchangeable, so the most important first move is reading the axis rather than trusting the icon you recognise.
Use everyday objects to measure the monumental
Doors, buses, and people make useful anchors for towers and monuments. A familiar 2-metre or 12-metre reference gives your eye a way into a much larger structure. From there, the landmark becomes a stack of relationships rather than an unreachable number.
For bridges and natural wonders, imagine the reference repeating along the measured direction. That mental repetition is often more reliable than remembering a headline height from a travel article.

The reveal is a chance to check the definition as well as the value. Ask whether the measurement includes a spire, pedestal, antenna, skybridge, or the full endpoint of a natural feature. Small wording changes can produce a large difference in the silhouette.
The library records the chosen version so the comparison remains honest. A landmark may have several published heights depending on whether the measurement is architectural, structural, or above sea level.

Why can two sources list different landmark heights?
A measurement may include or exclude a spire, antenna, pedestal, skybridge, or use a different definition such as architectural height. The game records the selected version.
